Effects of functional poly(ethylene terephthalate) nanofibers modified with sericin-capped silver nanoparticles on histopathological changes in parenchymal organs and oxidative stress in a rat burn wound model

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of a poly(ethylene terephthalate)-g-poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PET-g-HEMA) nanofiber wound dressing modified with sericin-coated silver nanoparticles (S-AgNPs) on internal organs, oxidative stress, and biochemical parameters. To establish burn model, backs anesthetized rats were shaved then third-degree burns created round-bottomed stainless steel rod 2 cm in diameter kept 100 °C water for 20 seconds. The wounds negative control group (G1) covered standard bandages; positive (G2) silvercel, used as material; experimental (G3) PET-based material. Histopathological changes organs (liver, kidneys, heart, pancreas, lungs), total oxidant status (TOS), antioxidant (TAS), nitric oxide (NO), parameters (serum aspartate aminotransferase [AST], alanine [ALT], gamma glutamyl transpeptidase [GGT], creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase [LDH], protein, albumin, globulin, urea) examined. Compared G1 group, plasma AST, ALT, GGT levels found be significantly decreased G2 G3 (P<0.001). Plasma TAS increased compared (P<0.05). degenerative necrotic liver, pancreas reduced conclusion, work demonstrates that synthesized material has capacity commercially.
